Currently we have a heck of a lot of people running main who we trust to provide actually good bug reports.

We would really like to not throw this away in the open phase because it gives us a lot of confidence in our software, so it makes reasonable sense to us to make an open-beta channel and keep the directions for running main around.

The exact reorganization required for this is still somewhat unclear to us. It can probably be deferred to post-soft-launch.
